Top legislator arrives in UAE for female parliament speakers summit

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan arrived in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on December 11 (local time) to attend the 11th Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament.

The visit was made at the invitation of President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Saber Chowdhury and President of the Federal National Council of the UAE Amal Al Qubaisi.

The Vietnamese delegation’s attendance at the summit demonstrates the country’s policy on gender equality and active and proactive international integration, while promoting the role and position of Vietnam and the National Assembly in regional and global parliamentary forums.

The Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, which will run until December 13, aims to promote female participation in politics and prevent violence against women and children.

Themed “United for Shaping the Future”, this year’s event will discuss the role of women parliament speakers in addressing challenges to social progress and prosperity.
