Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and his Cambodian counterpart Prak Sokhonn co-chaired the 18th annual meeting of the Vietnam - Cambodia Joint Committee on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation during a virtual event held on December 22.

The Joint Committee conducted a review and evaluation of the implementation process relating to the contents previously agreed at the 17th meeting held in Phnom Penh in 2019. Despite being negatively impacted by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the ministries and sectors of both nations have redoubled efforts to strengthen result-oriented co-operation.

The two sides therefore used the platform to discuss ways to continue expanding the scope of bilateral co-operation across a variety of fields in the face of numerous difficulties posed by the current COVID-19 pandemic. They also pledged to make every effort in order to promote comprehensive co-operation as a means of offering mutual support in terms of economic, cultural, scientific, and technological development, thereby bringing about benefits to citizens of both countries.

Later on the same day, Deputy PM Minh and Sokhonn, on behalf of the two countries' leaders, co-hosted a document exchange ceremony for the ratification of the Supplementary Treaty in 2019, in addition to the Protocol on the Demarcation and Marker Planting of the Land Boundary.

These documents acknowledge the achievements made by both Governments to complete 84% of land border demarcation and maker planting work over recent years.

The objective and transparent border delimitation will serve to maintain a stable border between the two nations, therefore fostering traditional friendship ties, showing strong togetherness, and promoting long-term stability.
