At the meeting with Naoto Otani, Binh poke highly of the Japanese supreme court’s cooperation with the Vietnamese side in law-building.

Vietnam has learned much from Japan’s experience in building and finalising the civil law, the penal code, and the criminal procedure code, he said, adding that it has shaped Vietnam’s compiling of the law on conciliation and dialogues at court, and law on negotiations.

He noted that the court will submit the draft law on conciliation and dialogue at court to the National Assembly for discussion in October 2019, and it is expected to be passed in May 2020.

The court is scheduled to host an international workshop on April 12 to assess the draft law and share experience in the field, Binh said.

Naoto Otani hoped that the two sides would promote cooperation in the time ahead.

While working with Minister of Justice Takashi Yamashita, Binh highly appreciated the coordination of Japan in the field, which has made significant contributions to judicial reform in Vietnam.

In 2013, Vietnam’s revised constitution was adopted while a number of bills were amended to conform to the Constitution, such as the criminal code and the criminal procedure code.

Japanese experts supported Vietnam in the building of these bills, he said.

Takashi Yamashita hoped the two countries’ relations will continue thriving, especially in the field of justice.

Through the programmes of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan has sent chief judges to Vietnam to exchange experience, he said.

The Vietnamese delegation is also scheduled to have working sessions with the Tokyo Court and Tokyo Family Court during their visit.
