The small designed hydropower projects were stopped as the benefit could not make up the environmental loss, the MoIT added.

According to MoIT, the Government has instructed it to continue to collaborate closely with the Provincial People’s Committees to review and evaluate the planning and investment of the hydropower projects under the set criteria.

Prime Minister has also asked MoIT to stop licensing hydropower projects, which may have a negative impact on forests in the Central Highlands region.
