The minister also stated that a factory with its production capacity of 100 million COVID-19 vaccine doses per year is currently under construction and will be put into operation in the first half of 2022.
He added that the Health Ministry has sent some 7,000 health workers from hospitals across the country in the past few weeks to Ho Chi Minh City and southern region in support of the local efforts in the fight against the pandemic.
Additionally, the ministry has set up a field warehouse of medical supplies in the southern region to support southern localities in emergency. The Government’s vaccine strategy has shown efficiency, affirmed the minister as the nation has signed COVID-19 vaccines purchase contracts and COVID-19 vaccines aid deals, totaling over 130 million doses with China, the US, Japan, Australia, the UK, and other nations.
The country is negotiating with other manufacturers to purchase another 40 million COVID-19 vaccines doses, bringing the total number of COVID-19 vaccines Vietnam may get by the end of 2021 to 170 million doses.
Vietnam expects to receive a tally of some 12 million doses of vaccine in July alone. To date, Vietnam is the first country in Southeast Asia that has tested the final stage of clinical trials of its home-made vaccine.
