Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong has sent a letter of congratulations to Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Victory Day over Fascism in the Great Patriotic War (May 9, 1945 - May 9, 2020).

The congratulatory letter reads: "The victory of the struggle against fascism 75 years ago is a brilliant landmark in the history of humankind and one of the greatest victories of the 20th century that has great stature and value and profound era meaning. The heroic Soviet army and people did not spare their blood and bones and sacrificed themselves to shatter Hitle’s war plot and dream of world domination, saving humanity from the fascist disaster. The victory of the Soviet Union and its allies created a revolutionary cascade of national liberation in all continents, shaking and gradually pulling down the colonial system of imperialism and colonialism in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

“Fueled by this historic victory, the Vietnamese people united to carry out the General Uprising to seize the government, making the glorious victory of the August Revolution in 1945, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, opening the era of national independence and socialism.

“The Vietnamese people always remember and are thankful for the great, impartial, and heartfelt help that the people of the former Soviet Union and Russia today have given to them in the years of struggling for national independence and reunification as well as in the later socio-economic construction and development.

“Overcoming many difficulties and challenges along the long historical path, with the solidarity and the spirit of equal and win-win cooperation, the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia has been constantly strengthened and promoted, making important contributions to the development in each country, for the benefits of the two peoples as well as for peace, stability and prosperity in the region and in the world.

“2020 is an important milestone when Vietnam and Russia celebrate the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations. It is also a year witnessing unprecedented challenges for all countries around the world as they have to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. I believe that Vietnam and Russia will work together with other nations to strengthen solidarity and promote international cooperation, with a resolve to soon drive back and control the epidemic and overcome this difficult period”.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc cabled a congratulatory letter to his Russian counterpart Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin, while Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh congratulated Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Viktorovich Lavrov.
