Viettel Group’s chairman appointed to lead information ministry
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc issued Decision 900/QD-TTg on July 25 to give the authority of a Minister of Information and Communications to Major General Nguyen Manh Hung, member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)’s Central Committee and Chairman and General Director of the military-run Viettel Group.

Earlier, the Politburo issued a decision to appoint Nguyen Manh Hung as Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Information and Communications for the 2016-2021 tenure.
Hung, born in 1962, was trained as a telecommunications engineer in former Soviet Union (Russia now). He earned a master’s degree in telecommunications in Australia and a master’s degree in business management in the National Economics University.
He was promoted to major general in 2012. In 2016 at the 12th Party Congress, he was elected as a member of the CPV’s Central Committee.
Hung was appointed Chairman cum General Director of the Viettel Group under a decision of the Prime Minister dated June 14, 2018.
