ARLEMP 48 on counter-terrorism investigation cooperation opens in Hanoi

PSNews -The 48th Asia Region Law Enforcement Management Program (ARLEMP 48) on March 19 opened at RMIT Ha Noi.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Craig Chittick, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Colonel Le Duc Tuyen - the MPS’s Deputy Chief of the Office of the Investigation Police Agency, Mr. Phillip Dowler, Director of RMIT Ha Noi.

ARLEMP is a training program aided by the Australian Federal Police with the aim of enhancing regional law enforcement management capability to address non-traditional security threats and transnational crimes. Since its inception in 2005, this program has organized 47 training courses for about 900 law enforcement officers, contributing to enhancing cooperation among law enforcement forces of countries in Asia-Pacific region.

During ARLEMP 48 lasting until April 5, 21 participating police officers from 16 countries will be trained mainly in counter-terrorism investigation. They will also participate in extracurricular activities such as visiting the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, exchanging experience with guests from Vietnam Ministry of Public Security, joining a BBQ for ARLEMP alumni at the Australian Embassy in Hanoi.

At the opening ceremony, Colonel Le Duc Tuyen emphasized that terrorism is expanding on a global scale, threatening peace and security in regions, including Southeast Asia. He called for more effective regional cooperation in counter-terrorism, and believed ARLEMP 48 themed “Counter-terrorism investigation” is a great platform for regional police officers to meet and share their skills and experience in the work.
