ASEAN Traffic Police Forum kicks off

PSNews – The 1st ASEAN Traffic Police Forum was officially opened on November 21st in Hanoi.

At the 1st ASEAN Traffic Police Forum in Vietnam, participating parties are expected to exchange experiences in shaping laws, managing and ensuring traffic order and safety in the context, in which ASEAN countries' citizens tend to integrate in the ASEAN Community. They also try to determine periodical activities so as to gradually create mechanisms for traffic police forces of the ASEAN member countries.

According to Major General Tran Son Ha, Director of the Traffic Police Department, the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security has well understood that issues relating to transportation and traffic safety play an important role in building a sustainable community. Therefore, it applauds the initiative to host the ASEAN Traffic Police Forum, contributing to bringing the relationships between/among ASEAN countries to a new high level.

The Traffic Police Department of Vietnam hopes that representatives of ASEAN countries will actively exchange its information and experience in ensuring traffic order and safety, contributing to economic development and defense of each country as well as peace and stability in the region and world.

Addressing the forum, Minister To Lam affirmed that the Vietnamese Government always attaches much importance to ensuring traffic order and safety, and considers it one of the key national programmes, which is implemented at all levels, in line with the Traffic Law.

In addition, the Ministry of Public Security hoped that ASEAN countries would discuss and propose solutions to ensure traffic order and safety; to assign State-level management of traffic order and safety to agencies at different levels; to promote cooperation and add agreed contents to a memorandum of understanding to be signed at the forum to be effectively implemented in the coming time.

The closing ceremony will be held on November 23rd.
