ASEANAPOL Training Cooperation Meeting takes place in Hanoi

The two-day meeting, which was hosted by the Police Investigation Authority's Office under the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in collaboration with relevant units, saw the participation of 50 delegates from 21 countries, including the 10 ASEAN member countries, ASEANPOL Secretariat, dialogue partners, observers from Interpol and International Red Cross.
Major General Dang Xuan Khang, Deputy Director of the People’s Police Academy under the Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security chaired the meeting.
ATCM, first launched in 2009, is being held annually to contribute to equipping ASEAN police forces with skills necessary for international cooperation on crime prevention and fight in the context of globalization.
This year's conference, titled "Glorious partner, secure strength", focused on reviewing the sustainable partnership, not only among ASEAN member countries but also between ASEAN and its dialogue partners and observers in order to enhance the comprehensive strength of the whole region in the fight against transnational crimes and response to other security threats and challenges.
At the meeting, delegates assessed the progress of the implementation of the initiatives raised at the 9th ASEANAPOL Training Cooperation Meeting in Brunei and also discussed the contents that were adopted at the 39th ASEAN Chiefs of Police Conference (ASEANAPOL 39) regarding training activities.
The delegates were also briefed on the implementation of training cooperation programs among member countries as well as dialogue partners and observers’ training support and cooperation programs.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Vietnamese delegation held talks with ASEANAPOL’s dialogue partners, observers such as Australia, New Zealand, France and Canada.
The positive result of the 10th ATCM have become the premise for the development of specific cooperation programs in 2020 and the following years.
On the occasion, the delegates were also invited to visit and exchange experiences with officials, lecturers and students of the People’s Police Academy under the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security.
