This meaningful activity is part of the program “Building bookcase for good” hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Security.

The program is to provide books for inmates at prisons, compulsory re-education centers and reformatories across Vietnam with the aim of healing inmates’ soul and directing them toward the good by offering books.

According to Ms. Duong Thuy Nga, Director of the Department of Library, all the selected books are educational and humane, helping inmates broaden their cultural, social and legal knowledge so they can be more aware of observing regulations at detention facilities as well as the laws when they are released.

At Ngoc Ly Prison, Venerable Dhammananda Thero Thich Phuoc Ngoc visited and encouraged the prisoners. He also presented the bookcase with various books to the prison.

At the meeting, Senior Colonel La Van My, Chief Warden of Ngoc Ly Prison, on behalf of police officers and soldiers as well as inmates at the prison, thanked the charitable delegation for their support.

He hoped that, through the program, many other prisons will also receive bookcases to serve the need of prisoners for knowledge and entertainment.
