Cooperation against human trafficking between Vietnam - Cambodia

CAMBODIA - Premilinary conference for 5-year implemention of  the Agreement between Vietnam and Cambodia on Anti - Human Trafficking and SOPs for the Identification and Repatriation of Trafficked Victims was held from October 4-5 in Sihanoukville.

Major General Nguyen Phong Hoa, Deputy General Director of General Police Department, Deputy Director of Vietnam COMMIT Steering Committee and Ms. San Arun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Woman Affairs, Director of Cambodia COMMIT Steering Committee are respectively Heads of Vietnam Delegation and Cambodia Delegation.

The conference saw the participation of leaders from Ministries and related authorities of the two countries. 

From 2011 - 2015, Vietnam and Cambodia have achieved many significant outcomes in implementing the Agreement on Anti - Human Trafficking and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Identification and Repatriation of Trafficked Victims.

Vietnam authorities prosecuted nearly 30 cases with 50 suspects who trafficked over 100 victims to Cambodia; rescued and returned hundreds of Cambodian victims. 

Cambodia also rescued and returned 77 female victims to Vietnam, in which 47 cases were conducted following SOPs. After repatriating, the relevant agencies have promptly supported these victims to stabilize their lives. 

Based on the report at the meeting, the two parties agreed to sign the Action Plan, implementing the Agreement on Anti - Human Trafficking and Support Victims period 2017 - 2018. 

The key points of such Agreement include: improving efficiency of human trafficking prevention via information, experience exchange; intensifying the implemention of SOPs, completing and ensuring cooperation mechanisms inked by the two nations.
