Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son speaks at the working session with Dong Thap Provincial Police Department.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son surveyed the location designated to build the Memorial House of former Security Region 8, in hamlet 4, My Long commune, Cao Lanh district.

Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Provincial Police Department, briefed the Deputy Minister and other delegates on the progress of the project, saying that it is scheduled to start this August.

The Provincial Police Department has so far collected a number of artifacts donated by local veterans working at former Security Region 8.

The Provincial Police Department also coordinated with the Public Security Institute of History to meet 62 local security veterans and 13 veterans from Hanoi who were reinforced to the Security Region 8 Command during the war. At the meeting, 160 artifacts were donated.

Regarding financial and logistics issues, the Dong Thap Provincial Police Department has provided sufficient finance and logistics for all basic operations of the local police forces in the first half of 2020.

The Dong Thap Provincial Police Department prioritized funding and equipment for key areas and hotspots in terms of public order and security while reserving reasonable resources for emergencies and contingencies. The department also provided good health care for soldiers, especially in the prevention of COVID-19 epidemic.

Deputy Minister Son applauded the Provincial Police Department’s efficient deployment of professional police officers to communes.

On the same day, Deputy Minister Son presided over a meeting with the participation of representatives from relevant specialized departments under the Ministry of Public Security, the  police departments of the 13 Southwestern provinces and cities, and wardens from the 11 prisons in the region.

The meeting aimed to seek approaches to step up the settlement of completed projects and financial disbursement for public investment in 2020 in the police departments of the Southwestern provinces.

According to statistics, over the past 5 years, functional agencies under the Ministry have appraised and approved the settlement of 1,259 projects worth VND 20,018 billion. In particular, the police departments in the Southwestern region finished the settlement of 191 projects with a total investment of VND 3,175 billion.

In the first 6 months of 2020, the management and use of the State budget of the police department in the Southwest region basically met the requirements of the local police’s operation. However, there remained various shortcomings and weaknesses.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Son asked leaders from the police departments to report on the progress of deploying professional police officers to communes, as well as their living and working conditions.

He highlighted that the COVID-19 pandemic delayed various services, including capital disbursement in the Public Security Forces.

Additionally, he stressed various key tasks which the police departments in the Southwestern region should urgently take on in the coming months of 2020. These included the settlement of completed projects, contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
