Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh attends International Scientific Conference "Diplomatic Measures in National Security Protection"

The People’s Security Academy, on October 7, held an international scientific conference in Hanoi named "Diplomatic Measures in National Security Protection".

This event was a one of practical activities of the Ministry of Public Security in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Basic Principles for Bilateral Friendship and 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1950-2020) between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.

The event saw the presence of Mr. Vadim Vladimirovich Bublikov, Deputy Ambassador of Russian Federation to Vietnam and other leaders of Russian agencies and educational institutions while the participating Vietnamese side included Mr. Vu Khoan, former Deputy Prime Minister, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security, and representatives of various functional units of the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Defense.

At the conference, participating delegates presented scientific reports on diplomatic measures in national security protection and discussed some issues, including the features of Vietnam's diplomatic activities and their relations with national security protection. They also mentioned impacts of security structures in the Asia-Pacific region on Vietnam and the implications for applying diplomatic measures in national security protection.

On behalf of Public Security Central Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh concluded the conference and appreciated the high-quality reports and opinions of delegates.

According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh, the officials and scientists at the conference agreed that diplomacy is both a science and an art of conducting international cooperation activities mainly through negotiations and peaceful solutions to protect national interests and solve international issues. In the face of extensive international integration, intensive development of the fourth scientific and technological revolution and numerous threats, the Vietnamese Public Security Forces have successfully applied various approaches and tools, including diplomatic measures, to firmly protect national security.

Senior General Nguyen Van Thanh emphasized that international delegates at the conference focused their discussion on terrorism risks. He suggested that the Vietnamese Public Security Forces should learn lessons and experience from the Russian security agency in identifying terrorists. He asked relevant Vietnamese public security agencies and units to creatively apply them to their work in line with the Vietnamese situation.
