Enhancing control of drug-related crimes in big cities

PSNews-The Investigation Police Department on Drug-Related Crimes held a conference on prevention and control of crimes relating to addictive substances and synthetic drugs.

The drug police force cracked down on over 66,000 cases and arrested 102,000 people related to drugs from 2013 to June, 2016, as reported in the conference.

The number of criminals and exhibits seized by police forces in 20 key localities increased year-on-year. Particularly, , the figures of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City rose by 40%-50%.

Additionally, there appear an increasing number of new kinds of drugs, including: cannabis, an American weed, LSD and Khat leaves.

Speaking at the event, Lieutenant General Dong Dai Loc, Deputy Director of the -General Department of Police stressed the prevention and combat against crimes relating to addictive substances and synthetic drugs, requiring consistence and cooperation of various relevant forces.

Drug traffickers usually make use of border areas or airlines for their activities, trafficking methamphetamine or other precursors into Vietnam.

New kinds of drugs posing threats to the society

In the time to come, drug combating units in localities and other relevant forces should have exact assessment of the real situation, and good understanding of operational methods and tricks of criminals to effectively prevent drugs from being infiltrated into Vietnam, said Mr. Loc.

He also urges involved agencies to enhance management of facilities of conditional business such as bars, motels and hotels, to boost cooperation with other nations in preventing and suppressing drug-related crimes.
