Environmental police reviews its task performance in past decade

PSNews-In its 10-year development, the Environmental Police Department (C49) uncovered many serious and complex cases badly affecting the environment, natural resources and food safety.

Over the past decade since its foundation, C49 in close coordination with relevant units has detected and handled over 100,000 cases of violation of the law on environment, natural resources and food safety; prosecuted over 3,000 cases with 4,300 defendants; fined 97,000 administrative cases with a total value of VND 1,166 billion. The Environmental Police also investigated and solved many serious, complex and urgent cases regarding environment, natural resources and food safety, which caused public anxiety.

Under the direction of the Central Party Committee of Public Security, leaders of the Ministry of Public Security and the General Department of Police, over the last 10 years, C49 has built up its force on one hand; and well implemented various programs and plans to prevent and fight environmental crimes on the other hand. This has demonstrated the force’s rapid growth and confirmed its role and position in the fight against crimes and violations of environmental laws.

Major General Nguyen Xuan Ly, Director of C49 said that the department has also discovered shortcomings of the legal framework and the management of environment, natural resources and food safety; advised the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security to propose the National Assembly, the Government and other ministries, branches and localities to perfect the legal documents and policies and management of environmental protection, natural resources and food safety.

All efforts made by the department have contributed to raising public awareness of environmental protection, and mobilized comprehensive social strength to fight crimes and violations of environment, natural resources and food safety.

In the coming years, as the situation of environment, national resources and food safety is likely to face complex developments, the environmental police force should continue giving proposals on the legal framework for preventing and fighting crimes and offences of ​​environment, natural resources and food safety; proactively grasp the situation and advice local Party committees, authorities and leaders of the public security units at all levels to thoroughly settle hot  issues on environment, natural resources and food safety; and quickly detect and strictly handle all violations.

The environmental police are also asked to build up a professional, well-trained and gradually modern force; promote coordination with international organizations to draw more supports of finance, technology and experience from other countries to improve the quality and efficiency of prevention and fight against crimes and offences of environment, natural resources and food safety in the new situation.
