HCM City police should stamp out mafia-style criminal gangs and drug-trafficking rings: Minister To Lam

The Ho Chi Minh City Municipal Police Department, on January 13, held a conference to review task performance in 2019 and roll out its working plan for 2020. General To Lam, Minister of Public Security (MPS) attended and delivered an important speech at the meeting.

The conference also saw the presence of Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.

In 2019, the Ho Chi Minh City Municipal Police Department launched a lot of campaigns against crimes focusing on main routes and important areas where serious crimes and criminal groups operating like mafia, and crime related to foreigners.

Therefore, the number of criminal cases went down by 7.35% comparted year on year. The rate of successful investigation of social order crime cases reached 76.25%.

For its outstanding achievements of 2019, the Ho Chi Minh Municipal Police Department honorably received the Emulation Flag from the MPS.

Minister To Lam hailed the excellent task performance of all police officers of the Ho Chi Minh City Municipal Police Department over the past time. He asked the public security forces of Ho Chi Minh City to continue to ensure security and safety for important upcoming events in the coming time, such Party congresses at all level as well as the Lunar New Year festival (Tet). 

He also requested the local police forces to grasp the situation and deny any strategic surprises in any circumstances.

Particularly, the minister requested the Ho Chi Minh City police should focus on suppressing serious crimes and mafia-style criminal groups. Regarding drug-related crime, to the local police should crack down on drug trafficking and trading rings and stop the use of illegal drugs in night clubs and karaoke bars.
