The Hanoi Municipal Police Department and the Education & Training Department on August 28 signed a cooperation plan to disseminate traffic laws at the city’s schools and educational facilities during 2019-2020 academic year.
This cooperation plan’s signing between the two units aims at improving students and their parents’ awareness of traffic safety, contributing to building a traffic culture in the capital city of Hanoi.
According to the plan, the two units will jointly hold training courses and other events to provide knowledge of traffic laws and traffic safety regulations, particularly the helmet wear regulation while riding on bikes, for school shuttle drivers, education managers and workers, teachers, students and their parents.
Under the plan, Hanoi’s traffic police will also increase patrols and checks around schools and strictly handle traffic offences made by schools shuttle drivers, students and their parents.
The data from the National Traffic Safety Committee shows that 80 percent of road traffic accident deaths are related to motorbikes. Wearing a helmet helps to reduce head injury risk by 60 percent and mortality risk by 40 percent. In 2018, 1,442 children fell victims to traffic accidents, a drop of 17 percent from 2017.
