Lai Chau police forces continue efforts to help people overcome floods

PSNews - Heavy downpours last week caused flashfloods, which have left dozens missing and caused serious damages to the Lai Chau province. Although the natural disasters have gone, local police officers are still working hard to help locals overcome the consequences.

Lai Chau province was one of the hardest-hit areas when the recent natural disasters were battering Northwestern provinces. 

As of July 3, flash floods and landslides triggered by downpours in the past days in Lai Chau had left 16 dead and 9 missing. Floods also pulled down or swept away 705 houses, damaged hundreds homes and submerged 1,000 ha of rice crops. Total damage was estimated at nearly 350 billion VND.

Against this backdrop, hundreds of police officers and soldiers have been mobilized for rescue missions during the rains, flooding and landslides, as well as for supporting local people in overcoming the consequences.

The local police force is now working the whole day and night alongside locals to rebuild houses, clear off tons of mud, dirt and rock from roads, with the aim of helping the people soon return to normal life.
