MPS promotes management and use of weapons, explosives and combat gears

The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on July 25 held a teleconference to discuss the implementation of the Law on Management and Use of Weapons, Explosives and Combat Gears, and review 5 years implementing the Ordinance on Management and Use of Weapons, Explosives and Combat Gears. Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son chaired the teleconference.

An overview of the teleconference

Reports at the teleconference said, the implementation of the law was supported by other guiding documents. This demonstrated that the law was implemented in a synchronic, united and effective manner. Meanwhile, relevant ministries, Central agencies and branches, and the people's committees of provinces and cities promoted close coordination with the MPS and the Ministry of Defense in implementing this law.

After 5 years of implementation, the ordinance has contributed to the state management of security and order, and effectively supported prevention and fight against crimes and socio-economic development of the country.

The police forces nationwide called on people to surrender more than 98,000 guns of various kinds (mainly home-made guns or hunting rifles); over 10,000 bombs, grenades and mines of various types; nearly 34,000 rounds of ammunition; over 180,000 kg of explosives and detonators. 91.8 % of the cases involving weapons, explosives and combat gears were successfully investigated.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son urged all police units nationwide to further disseminate the laws in suitable forms and with contents and call for surrender of illegal storage of weapons, explosives and combat gears. They should also organize training courses for the forces equipped with weapons, explosives and combat gears to ensure safe management, storage and use of weapons, explosives and combat gears, and in accordance with the laws.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son hands over Certificates of Merit awarded by the MPS to 20 teams and 27 individuals with their outstanding achievements in implementing the Ordinance in the period of 2012-2017.
