MPS’s Department of Foreign Relations rolls out working plan for 2020

The Department of Foreign Relations under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on January 3 held a conference to review its task performance in 2019 and roll out its working program for 2020.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Public Security, attended and delivered a keynote speech at the event.

Over the past year, the department has proposed important advice on international relations to leaders of the MPS. Especially, it advised the leadership of the MPS to expand both multilateral and bilateral cooperation on national security and social order protection.

The department has guided agencies and units of the People’s Public Security Forces to maintain and expand its bilateral relations with their counterparts of foreign countries as well as to actively participate in numerous multilateral forums.

The department has promptly received and effectively handled crime reports and information related foreign criminals. Further, it well performed the function of the Standing Office of the Human Rights Steering Committee while promoting cooperation between the Public Security Forces of Vietnam and law enforcement forces of other countries on education, training, technology transfer.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh applauded the achievements obtained by the department in 2019.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that many significant events of the country will take place in 2020 while Vietnam becomes the ASEAN Chair and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Therefore, the Department of Foreign Relations should be aware of the strong impact of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and other non-traditional security issues, including information network security and issues related to foreigners entering Vietnam, thus contributing to firmly protecting national security and ensuring social order and safety as well as strengthening cooperation on training professional skills and foreign languages ​​for public security officers and soldiers.
