Military and Public Security Forces enhance coordination in border security protection

PSNews - The Immigration Department under the Ministry of Public Security and the Border Guard Command under the Ministry of Defense on June 28 signed a coordination mechanism on enhancing bilateral cooperation in immigration management.

The ceremony was attended by Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense; Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security.

Major General Quach Huy Hoang, Director of the Immigration Department and Major General Le Duc Thai, Commander of the Border Guard co-chaired the event.

Following the direction of the Minister of National Defense, the Minister of Public Security, the Border Gate Department and other relevant units under the Ministry of Defense in coordination with the Immigration Department have developed a new coordination mechanism, which has more encompassing and effective contents to replace coordination mechanism No. 16666/QCPH-QLXNC CCK dated October 1, 2020.

The draft coordination regulation has three chapters with 8 articles, clearly and specifically stipulating the scope and targets of the regulation, and principles of coordination between the two sides. Under the new coordination regulation, the two sides will cooperate in exchange of information, management and control of exit and entry, issuance of visas at the border gates.

The new document also clarifies the coordination mechanism between the Immigration Department under the Ministry of Public Security and the Border Guard Command under the Ministry of Defense in fighting violation of the immigration laws, managing foreigners’ residency, and deporting foreigners violating the Vietnamese laws.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of National Defense Hoang Xuan Chien and Deputy Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang acknowledged and praised the efforts of the two units in seriously implementing the directions of the two ministries in building the coordination regulation.

The two leaders also affirmed the close coordination relationship between the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense, particularly in immigration management, stressing that this is an important field, directly affecting the mission of safeguarding national defense and national security, socio-economic development as well as the country's foreign affairs.

Deputy Minister of National Defense Hoang Xuan Chien and Deputy Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang requested the two units to further study and advise the leadership of the ministries on measures to improve legal institutions on immigration management.
