Minister To Lam makes phone call to Singaporean counterpart

PSNews - General To Lam, Minister of Public Security had a telephone call on November 30 with Mr. K. Shanmugam, Minister of Law and Minister of Home Affairs of Singapore.

During the talk, Minister To Lam affirmed that the current cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam and Singaporean law enforcement agencies has seen positive developments, contributing to promoting the strategic partnership established in 2013 between the two countries.

According to the Vietnamese minister, since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in the region, the Vietnamese MPS has provided the Singaporean Ministry of Home Affairs with 10,000 antibacterial masks to fight the disease.

Minister To Lam emphasized that the Vietnamese side highly appreciated Singapore's efforts as the ASEAN Lead Shepherd for Cybercrime within the SOMTC/AMMTC framework. The Vietnamese MPS has posted its officers to the ASEAN Cybercrime Operations Desk (ASEAN Desk) at the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) based in Singapore, he added.

The Vietnamese minister expressed hope that the MPS of Vietnam will receive further support from the Singaporean side in this field of cooperation as well as in other cooperation mechanisms within the SOMTC/AMMTC framework.

Minister To Lam also spoke highly of Minister K. Shanmugam’s request for a phone call in which the two sides would discuss the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the use of cannabis for medical research purposes.

For his part, Minister K. Shanmugam congratulated the Vietnamese MPS on its successful organization of the online 14th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC).

He believed that the cooperation between Singapore and Vietnam in general, between Singaporean law enforcement agencies and the Vietnamese MPS in particular, will increasingly develop and achieve more significant results.
