Public Security Minister General To Lam on May 23 sent a letter praising public security units and agencies nationwide for their efforts in preventing and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic over the past time.

The main theme of the letter is below:

Since the beginning of 2021, the People's Public Security Forces (PSF) in cooperation with other functional forces have taken drastic measures to prevent the Covid-19 pandemic. Particularly, public security officers and soldiers effectively ensured security and social order while implementing measures to control the spread of the disease in every residential area and village.

They also supported the health sector to quarantine suspected COVID-19 cases and quickly tracked down people who have close contacts with the COVID-19 patients in an effort to prevent the disease from spreading in the community.

Additionally, the PSF actively coordinated with the Border Guard Force to increase patrols in the border areas and strictly control illegal immigration. Police forces of border communes implemented effective measures to prevent both Vietnamese citizens and foreigners from illegally entering and exiting the country while well managing foreign residents in order to prevent the transmission of the virus to Vietnam from overseas. The PSF also ensured security and social order in quarantine zones, hospitals, and medical facilities as well as supportedCOVID-19-hit localities to stamp out the pandemic.

They also paid due attention to safeguarding detention and custody centers, contributing to preventing the transmission of the virus among inmates. Furthermore, they actively fought all kinds of crimes related to COVID-19 and strictly handle the dissemination of false information about the disease situation.

Although over 40,000 officers and soldiers of the PSF were vaccinated against the disease, the forces are still facing a shortage of medical supplies and equipment for the fight against the pandemic. It means, many public security officers and soldiers still have a high risk of being infected with SARS-CoV-2.

Over the past time, the PSF have actively cooperated with law enforcement agencies of other countries in the fight against the pandemic. The Ministry of Public Security as well as public security agencies and units presented medical stuffs and equipment to the police of Laos and Cambodia, contributing to strengthening friendships and cooperation between Vietnam and the two neighboring countries.

On behalf of the Ministry of Public Security, Minister To Lam highly appreciated and praised the efforts and achievements of all officers and soldiers in ensuring security and social order, fighting against crimes and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic over the past time.

In order to actively ensure national security, social order and safety, as well as control the disease and prevent illegal entry into Vietnam, Minister To Lam requested the chains of command in the PSF to drastically implement key tasks as follows:

1. The PSF should follow the guidelines and solutions to ensure national security and prevent as well as foil all sabotage plots of hostile and reactionary forces, while strengthening internal political security, economic security, and cyber security. They should also protect the results of the election of deputies to the National Assembly and all-level People's Councils.

2.The PSF should mobilize the whole political system and people to actively participate in crime control and take measures to reduce crimes, contributing to gradually building an orderly, disciplined, secure and safe society.

3.They should pay due attention to enhancing the quality of the communal-level police force’s task performance, while handling complicated security and order cases at the grassroots level.

4. The PSF nationwide should attach importance to effectively implementing guidelines and directions of the Party, the Government, and the Ministry of Public Security on controlling the COVID-19 pandemic and coordinate with the Border Guard Force to prevent foreigners and Vietnamese citizens from illegally entering the country.

They should continue to track down COVID-19 suspects for timely quarantine while working out plans to ensure medical facilities, supplies and equipment for pandemic prevention. Heads of public security units and agencies nationwide should thoroughly grasp the pandemic situation to assign sufficient forces for both ensuring security and social order, and fighting the disease. Additionally, public security officers and soldiers on duty should be sufficiently equipped with protective items in order to avoid infection with SARS-CoV-2 virus.
