Shortly after his arrival in Canberra, Australia, Minister To Lam had talks with Senator Peter Dutton – Australian Minister of Immigration and Border Protection and met with Chief of the Australian Federal Police Andrew Colvin.
The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Australia Luong Thanh Nghi also joined the Vietnamese Public Security delegation.

At the talks, Senator Peter Dutton warmly welcomed Minister To Lam, highly valued the visit to the country of the Vietnamese public security delegation, and expressed pleasure over positive developments in the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in general and between Australian law enforcement agencies and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam in particular.
On behalf of the delegation, Minister To Lam extended sincere thanks to Mr. Peter Dutton and Australian friends for their warm reception, and stated that the Vietnamese State, People and Ministry of Public Security always attach great importance to developing friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation with the Australian law enforcement agencies.

The Minister of Public Security of Vietnam affirmed that Vietnam also treasures friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation with the Australian law Enforcement agencies and the Ministry of Immigration and Border Protection.
Minister To Lam also expressed his belief that the bilateral cooperation will contribute to peace, stability and development of each country as well as the region and the world.
During talks, the two sides focused discussion on potentials and measures to promote cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Australian Ministry for Immigration and Border Protection on security in the coming time. The two ministers then agreed on measures to further strengthen cooperation on management of immigration activities.

At the meeting, the two ministers agreed to advise the two governments to expand cooperation in other potential areas, such as natural energy, agriculture and natural resources.
In conclusion, Vietnamese Public Security Minister To Lam and Minister Peter Dutton signed a memorandum of understanding between the two ministries on visa granting requirements for Vietnamese citizens.
The two sides also agreed to focus on implementing the Vietnam-Australia Action Plan 2016-2019 recently signed and other documents such as agreement on extradition and transfer of prisoners.
