PSF asked to draw up plans in response to natural disasters

Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Chairman of the Steering Committee for Climate Change, Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue under the Ministry of Public Security, on May 22 chaired a video meeting with public security units and agencies nationwide on approaches to mitigate consequences of natural disaster as well as to ensure security and social order during natural disasters.

At the meeting, delegates from relevant agencies and units analyzed the difficulties in ensuring security and social order in responding to natural disasters faced by the Public Security Forces (PFS) over the past years.

Based on experiences and best practices shared by public security agencies and units, the delegates discussed and worked out effective approaches to deal with natural disasters in the coming time.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son praised the efforts of public security agencies and units nationwide in response to natural disasters over the past time.

In order to improve the efficiency of the Public Security Forces’ responses to natural disasters, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son requested the relevant forces to strictly follow the directions of the Central Party Committee, the Government and the Ministry of Public Security on maintaining security and social order.

All relevant public security agencies and units should closely follow instructions from the Central Steering Committees on Natural Disaster Prevention, the National Committee for Disaster Response, Search and Rescue, and the National Committee on Climate Change while proactively detecting and strictly handling law violations and crimes against environmental protection, forest management and exploitation as well as crimes during natural disasters.

The Public Security Forces should promote the training of natural disaster response, search and rescue skills and heighten public security officers and soldiers’ sense of responsibility for response to natural disasters.

Meanwhile, agencies and units should also immediately honor groups and individuals with outstanding achievements in response to climate change, natural disasters, search, and rescue.

The Deputy Minister requested that public security agencies and units at all levels, after the meeting, should review their natural disaster prevention and control over the past time while drawing up plans to respond to 21 types of natural disasters in accordance with the guidelines of the Central Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention.
