Public Security Academy opens new academic year

PSNews - The Public Security Academy (PSA) on October 10 held a ceremony to open is 2018-2019 academic years. Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security attended and made a keynote speech at the event.

Delivering his speech at the ceremony, Major General Le Van Thang, Director of the Public Security Academy stated that, in the 2017-2018 academic year, under the guidance of the Central Party Committee of Public Security and leaders of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), the PSA successfully fulfilled its assigned tasks, and achieved many remarkable results.

In the previous year, PSA was honored to receive the Emulation Flag from the MPS and the Ministry of Education and Training; 3 units of the university were presented with the Emulation Flag and 5 other units were conferred on Certificates of Merit by the MPS, while 8 units received the title of "Excellent Unit", 123 teachers and officers were awarded the title of "Excellent Soldier" at the grassroots level, and many other groups and individuals were awarded various titles and prizes.

The academy also completed 2 Ministerial-level research projects and 8 grassroots-level projects funded by the State Budget, 10 grassroots-level projects were funded by other sources; published 102 textbooks and teaching materials at the academy level.

In the 2017 - 2018 academic year, the Academy had 5 officers recognized by the National Council as Professors and Associate Professors in the field of Security Science; 3 officers were conferred on the title of “People's Teacher" and “Meritorious Teacher”; 309 students won the title of "Excellent Student" and "Good Student".

Especially, PSA continued to be a leading unit of the armed forces at national and international contests. It won the First Prize at the International Collegiate Programming Contest for Public Security Academies and Schools; Second Prize at the National Mathematical Olympiad for university students; entered the Top 10 list of the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship (MOSWC) held in the  United States.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Central Party Committee of Public Security and leaders of the MPS, Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam applauded and highly valued the significant achievements that the PSA has gained in the 2017-2018 academic year.

He agreed on the academy's plan for the 2018-2019 academic year and urged the leaders, teachers, officers and students of the PSA to implement effectively the policies of the Party, the State, as well as the directions of the Central Party Committee of Public Security and the MPS on renovating fundamentally and comprehensively public security education and training to build professional, elite and modern public security forces.

The Deputy Minister also asked the Academy to innovate training programs and teaching and learning methods while further promoting scientific research, contributing to completing the theoretical system on public security profession, and advising the leaders of the MPS on State management of protection of national security and the fight against crimes breaching national security.

The academy should make a master plan to improve expertise and abilities of its teachers and educational managers so that it could preserve both quality and quantity of its staff while meeting the requirements of titles and degrees in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and the MPS.

Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam urged the academy to strengthen international cooperation as well as the cooperation with branches and training institutions outside the public security forces; contributing to promoting PSA to be a major center for higher training in the public security forces and in the country by 2020.
