Security forces of Vietnam and Laos promote cooperation

PSNews –Minister of Public Security General To Lam held talks with his Lao counterpart, Senior Lieutenant General Vilay Lakhamfong, Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Security Minister, following a welcome ceremony for the latter in Hanoi on February 20.

At the talks, Minister To Lam congratulated Laos on the recent comprehensive development under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party headed by General Secretary and President Vorachith Bounnhang.

Minister To Lam affirmed that the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam and the Ministry of Security of Laos had actively and regularly coordinated in exchange of views on international and regional issues related to national security and social safety and order of each country, as well as exchange of information about transnational crime, organized crime, hi-tech crime, human trafficking and drug-related crime, which involved citizens of the two countries.

The police forces of border localities of the two countries rotationally hosted regular briefings and information exchange on security and order; proactively prevented and fought sabotage plots and activities of hostile forces; coordinated in controlling crimes; jointly built a peaceful and friendly borderline, contributing to strengthening the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the peoples and police forces of the two countries.

Regarding cooperation orientations in 2019, Minister Lam suggested the two ministries continue the exchange of delegations and work experiences, and coordinate together to deal with arising problems, not letting hostile forces to distort and undermine the fine traditional friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

The two sides should enhance cooperation and exchange information in a timely and precise manner to facilitate investigation, prevention and fight against criminal activities, and identification of wanted criminals as the host urged the two sides to promote discussion to sign the Treaty on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons and Treaty on Extradition.

The Lao Minister thanked Minister To Lam for his warm reception, and emphasized that the close-knit relations and cooperation between the MPS of Vietnam and the Ministry of Security of Laos had contributed to deepening and strengthening the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, Governments, peoples and security forces.

Minister Vilay Lakhamphong highly appreciated the outcomes of the implementation of the 2018 cooperation plan between the two ministries in all cooperation areas. He also suggested that the two Ministries would further expand bilateral cooperation and actively support each other.

Following the talks, the two ministers signed a bilateral cooperation plan in 2019 between the Ministries of Public Security of Vietnam and Laos.
