Security tightened at Tan Son Nhat Airport ahead lunar New Year travel season

PSNews – Officers at the Tan Son Nhat Border Gate Security Station under the Immigration Management Department (Ministry of Public Security) are strengthening coordination with functional forces to take various measures to ensure security and safety for passengers and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the buildup to the Lunar New Year travel season.

Tan Son Nhat International Airport is one of the largest airports in the country and is an important project in terms of national security. It is also a major gateway to Vietnam. It serves the largest number of air passengers carried by more than 50 domestic and international airlines.

During the 13th National Party Congress and in the buildup to the Lunar New Year travel season, security at the airport is tightened. Officers at the Tan Son Nhat Border Gate Security Station have been ordered to try their best in close coordination with other functional forces to ensure security and safety for passengers and airport workers as well as to prevent the spread of COVID-19 through the airport.

Particularly, the border gate security officers in coordination with relevant agencies and the health quarantine center at the airport closely monitor all passengers on flights coming from COVID-19 hit countries. Medical screenings are conducted at the airport so all passengers with symptoms of COVID-19 are quarantined in concentrated zones under the instructions and regulations from the Health Ministry.

Major General Le Hong Nam, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Municipal Police Department said that the security and order situation at the airport has been maintained by the police and security forces.

Major General Le Hong Nam pointed out that there are still factors that may cause in the security situation at the airport at risk.

Especially, some passengers do not comply with regulations on aviation security and safety, such as using fake identity cards or carrying prohibited objects such as guns, supporting tools while flying.

According to Major General Le Hong Nam, the police and airport security forces also discovered a number of smuggling and prohibited items at the airport. He affirmed, tightening security at the airport during the Lunar New Year Festival 2021 is essential to ensure safety and security for passengers, maintain order at the airport, and control the COVID-19 epidemic.
