Special competition held for 283 service dogs of northern police units

PSNews – The High Command of Mobile Police on May 16 opened the preliminary round of the 4th Service Dog Competition 2019 in the North. Lieutenant General Pham Quoc Vuong, Commander of the Mobile Police attended the event.

This is one of the activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the traditional day of the service animal management and training sector (May 15, 1959-2019).

The preliminary round of the competition in the North saw the participation of 283 trainers and 283 service dogs from 48 police units and localities, including the Guard Police High Command, the Center for service animals training and use, and police units from 27 northern provinces and cities and 20 prisons.

The competition consists of 6 categories, namely searching, attacking and overpowering subjects with weapons in skyscrapers; tracing missing people; detecting drugs; detecting explosives; and distinguishing human scent.

Speaking at the event, Senior Colonel Nguyen Trong Chi, Deputy Command of Mobile Police said that service animals in general and service dogs in particular play an important role in protecting national security and ensuring social order and safety. The use of service dogs is one of the necessary professional measures of the Public Security Forces.

Therefore, this competition would help leaders of the Mobile Police High Command review and evaluate the management, training and use of service animals of police units, as well as tactical skills of service animal trainers.

This is also an opportunity for service dog’s trainers to meet and exchange experience so as to improve their expertise and skills.

At the opening ceremony, Lieutenant General Pham Quoc Cuong and Senior Colonel Nguyen Trong Chi also handed the Souvenir Flags to the delegations participating in the competition.
