The Government’s Steering Committee on Crime Prevention and Fight (Steering Committee 138) and the National Steering Committee for Prevention and Fight against smuggling, commercial fraud and counterfeit goods (Steering Committee 389) held a conference on July 25 to review their performances of tasks in the first half of 2019 and roll out new plans for the second half.
According to reports at the event, the police force in coordination with relevant forces has reached large achievements in preventing, investigating and handling crimes. Particularly, the police have taken various comprehensive preventive measures at hotspots of crime and complex security areas, reducing the number of criminal offences by 0.99% compared with the same period of 2018.

The police have cracked down on 13,200 drug cases, arrested 20,000 people involved and seized record large amounts of drugs. Meanwhile, relevant police agencies and units conducted information campaigns against crimes effectively, which helped the police win people’s trust and support and mobilize them to participate in preventing and combating crimes.
Over the past six months, the police force nationwide has launched various intensive campaigns against crimes, coordinated with relevant forces to effectively prevent and fight crimes related to counterfeit goods and smuggling, successfully investigated major cases and arrested heads of smuggling rings. Particularly, the police handled 85,892 cases and offences of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeits, collected 6,200 billion VND to the State budget, and prosecuted 1,311 cases and 1,546 people involved.

Speaking at the event, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh asked relevant ministries, branches and localities to grasp the situation, overcome their shortcomings and promote the State management in ensuring security and order, as well as preventing and combating smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.
He also asked the police and other relevant forces to focus on investigating and handling organized crimes, human trafficking, drug-related crimes, “black credit”, illegal exploitation of mineral resources, smuggling of petroleum and mineral products, tobacco, sugar, fertilizers, hazardous wastes, and counterfeit goods. Meanwhile, the investigation police were urged to closely coordinate with procuracy agencies and courts at all levels in investigating, prosecuting and soon bringing large cases and cases of public concern to trial in line with the laws.
