The BLO is the 20th of its kind in Vietnam supported by UNODC. The office will cover activities along the borderline with China’s Guangxi province.
Speaking at the event, Major General Do Duc Binh, Deputy Head of the Counter-Narcotics Police Department, said that located near the “Golden Triangle” and “Golden Crescent” regions, which are seen as “hotspots” of drug production, Vietnam is strongly affected by drug trafficking activities in the areas.
Located in a key position along the Vietnam-China borderline, Cao Bang province has witnessed a rise in illegal drug smuggling, human trafficking, and illegal immigration activities.
According to Nguyen Duc Long, a representative of the UNODC, taking the advantage of the COVID-19 situation, criminal groups have increased drug production and smuggling, human and wide animal trafficking, and illegal immigration activities
At the ceremony, UNODC handed over medical supplies, vehicles, and investigation supporting devices, including drug test kits, binoculars, and GPS navigation device to the BLO in Cao Bang province.
