Vietnam, China committed to fight drug trafficking

Lieutenant General Pham Van Cac delivers opening remarks

At the opening remarks, Lieutenant General Pham Van Cac, Director of the Vietnamese Investigation Police Department on Drug-related Crime emphasized that, on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding on the control of drugs, psychotropic substances and pre-substances signed in 2001 between Vietnam and China, a bilateral cooperation mechanism was formed in 2009. Over the past decade, the cooperation mechanism has proved to be effective, contributing to boosting the cooperation between two sides.

Mr. An Guojun, Deputy Secretary-General of the China’s National Narcotics Control Commission, Deputy Director of the China Drug Administration affirmed that the cooperation results achieved by the two sides in the field of drug prevention and control in the past time has contributed not only to preventing trans-border drug trafficking and promoting cooperative relations between the two countries, but also ensuring national security, peace, stability, socio-economic development in each country.

At the meeting, representatives of the two sides focused on discussing issues related to the fight against drug-production crime, precursor management, and drug testing as well as coordination between the two border officers' liaison offices.

The two sides also reviewed and evaluated the results of the information dissemination and combat of drug crimes along both sides of the Vietnam-China border region in 2019. At the meeting, the two sides also worked on cooperative plans for 2020 and the following years.
