Vietnam, Russia boost security cooperation amid COVID-19

PSNews - Vietnamese Minister of Public Security General To Lam on March 16 hosted a reception for a high-ranking Russian delegation led by Secretary of the Security Council of the Federation of Russia General Nikolai Patrushev during his visit to Vietnam from March 15 to 17.

The visit to Vietnam is of great significance as it is seen as a continuation of the activities marking the 70th founding anniversary of Vietnam-Russia diplomatic relations (1950 - 2020). It is even more significant since it takes place right after the success of the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party Vietnam.

During the talks, the two sides voiced their delight at the effectiveness and positive results of the comprehensive strategic partnership and expressed their belief that bilateral relations as well as cooperation in security and national defense will be further strengthened in the time to come.

Minister To Lam spoke highly of the visit amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, saying it will deepen the traditional relations between the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) and Russian law enforcement agencies and the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership at large.

Minister Lam emphasized that Vietnam appreciates Russia’s success in the fight against COVID-19 and wished to bolster cooperation in ensuring human security against the backdrop of the pandemic. He also highly appreciated the support from Russia for Vietnam in studying measures to control the pandemic and vaccines against the virus.

Also at the event, Minister Lam and Mr. Patrushev exchanged views on global and regional issues and those of mutual concern in a bid to strengthen bilateral coordination in ensuring cyber security, safety for Vietnamese and Russian overseas citizens, and Vietnam’s security industry development, among other matters.

According to them, the MPS and Russian law enforcement agencies have launched various cooperation activities in all spheres and obtained fruitful results.

At the end of the talks, the two head delegates witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the MPS and the Investigative Committee of Russia.

* On the morning of the same day, the high-ranking delegation of the Russian Security Council led by General Patrushev Nikolai Platonovich placedwreaths at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Monument of Vietnamese War Martyrs in Bac Son street, Hanoi. Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Public Security Major General Le Tan Toi joined the delegation.
