Vietnam, Singapore strengthen cyber security cooperation

PSNews - General To Lam, Minister of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam, had a virtual ministerial meeting with the Singaporean delegation led by S. Iswaran, Minister of Communications and Information (MCI) and Minister in charge of Cyber Security on September 29.

At the meeting, the two sides expressed concerns about challenges and threats to cyber security in the region and world, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, and shared information about the cybersecurity situation in each country, thereby boosting cooperation in handling cybercrime cases related to Vietnam and Singapore.

Speaking at the conference, Minister To Lam emphasized that Vietnam has always considered cybercrimes and hi-tech crimes as a major threat so it see the need to strengthen coordination with law enforcement agencies of ASEAN countries, especially Singapore - the country leading regional cooperation in preventing and combating cybercrime in the framework of the AMMTC (ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime) mechanism.

Vietnam is committed to further promote regional cooperation in a practical way and in depth, in accordance with the theme "For a cohesive ASEAN in prevention and control of transnational crime" initiated by the Vietnamese MPS.

On this occasion, Minister To Lam also proposed some approaches to strengthen cooperation on cyber security and hi-tech crime with Singapore.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. S. Iswaran agreed with the Vietnamese side’s proposals to promote cooperation between the two sides in the coming time in the field of cybercrime prevention and control.

Mr. S. Iswaran reaffirmed the commitment of the Singapore Government to the combat against such serious crimes, and continued to strengthen cooperation with all countries in the region and around the world, contributing to maintaining a secure cyberspace.

Regarding the International Cybersecurity Week themed "Cooperation in post-pandemic COVID-19 times", Singapore wants countries to recognize the importance to build capacity to ensure cybersecurity and promote cooperation and mutual support in coping with threats of cybercrime.
