Vietnam, Thailand beef up cooperation in politics and security

PSNews - The 10th Meeting of the Vietnam – Thailand Joint Working Group on Politics and Security (JWG) took place since August 5 to 8 in Hanoi with many important discussions.

At the invitation of Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, Deputy Minister of Public Security, Vietnamese Head of the JWG, General Wanlop Rugsanaoh, Secretary-General of the Thailand’s National Security Council, Thai Head of the JWG, led a delegation of relevant Thai ministries and branches to attend the 10th Meeting of the JWG from August 5 to 8 in Hanoi.

During the working session, the two sides highly valued the importance of the JWG mechanism which helps contribute to maintaining and developing the fine traditional cooperation between the two countries, as well as promoting the strategic partnership in all fields, particularly in politics and security.

The JWG’s delegates of the two countries also discussed and agreed on other cooperation contents to further improve the efficiency of the mechanism of JWG in the coming time.

Delegates at the meeting underlined the JWG mechanism as an important foundation to promote the building of a united, peaceful and prosperous ASEAN Community in the context of the community in its third year of development; and to facilitate the implementation of the general plan of the 2025 ASEAN Community Vision amid complicated developments in the situations of politics and security in the region and the world. 

According to the two countries’ representatives, armed, racial and religious conflicts, terrorist activities, territorial disputes continue to change the destiny of many nations, negatively affect the global political situation and international peace and security as well as Vietnam and Thailand. Therefore, the JWG mechanism has contributed positively to peace, security and stability of the two countries, the ASEAN region and the international community.

During the 10th Meeting of the JWG, the Thailand’s delegation also paid courtesy visit to Minister of Public Security To Lam. The delegation expressed their gratitude to the warm sentiment and the great reception of the Vietnamese side.
