Vietnam and Laos hold 11th Security Cooperation Conference

The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam and the Ministry of Security of Laos held their 11th Security Cooperation Conference on November 28 in Cua Lo, Nghe An.
An overview of the event.

Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security of Vietnam led the Vietnamese delegation while Lao Deputy Minister of Security Kongthong Phongvichit headed the Lao delegation. Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung, Chairman of the Nghe An Provincial People’s Committee attended the event.

Reports at the event showed that the security forces of the two countries have actively and effectively implemented the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked at the previous conference in July 2019 in Vientiane, Laos although both sides have faced various difficulties caused by the pandemic and natural disasters.

Regarding orientations for the cooperation in the time to come, the two sides agreed to strengthen exchange of information and working experience, further coordinate in the field of immigration management, and ensure security and order along the shared border.

The two head delegates also pledged to facilitate coordination between functional agencies from both sides in COVID-19 prevention and control, and natural disaster response and relief.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam highlighted the importance of the conference, saying that it serves as a strategic foundation as it contributes to blueprinting the bilateral cooperation in the next period. It also helps stabilize political security and supports national construction and defense in each country, and make contribution to developing the special solidarity and traditional relations between Vietnam and Laos.
