Vietnam and Lithuania promote security cooperation

PSNews – Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Minister of Public Security, welcomed a high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Interior of Lithuania, led by its Minister Eimutis Misiunas, on January 22.

After the official reception, the two ministers led two high-ranking delegations of the two ministries had talks.

Speaking at the talk, Minister To Lam expressed his delights at fine developments in bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in politics, economics, culture and social affairs, in recent years. 

Minister Lam emphasized that Vietnam appreciated the traditional friendship between the two countries and thanked the Lithuanian Government and people for their support for Vietnam’s standing on the South China Sea issue as well as freedom and safety of navigation and aviation in the region.

Minister Lam emphasized that Vietnam supports Lithuanian’s running for the UN Human Rights Council in the 2020 – 2022 term, the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the 2018-2021 term, and Directorship of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in the 2019-2022 term.

On the basis of the political trust between the two countries, the MPS of Vietnam and Ministry of the Interior of Lithuania promoted cooperation in the fields of immigration, residence and return of citizens in recent years.

Minister To Lam also suggested both sides promote exchange of information and experience in crime prevention and fight, particularly hi-tech crimes, drug-related crimes and human trafficking.

He also asked both sides to promote cooperation in training personnel and improving professional expertise for law enforcement officers by opening specialized training courses and conferences; coordinate and support each other at international forums on crime prevention and fight; protect and facilitate legal activities of diplomatic agencies, companies and citizens of one country in the other.

The Lithuanian minister thanks the MPS of Vietnam for the kind reception and expressed his belief that the cooperation between the two sides in various areas would see more developments in the time to come. He also vowed to do his best to bring relations between the two countries in general and two ministries in particular to a new height.
