The 5th Intersessional Meeting on ASOD Working Group on Law Enforcement |
Located nearby the Golden Triangle, a world drug production hub and shelter of major drug trafficking organizations, the ASEAN region is facing a constant rise in production and trade of drugs, particularly opium and amphetamine stimulants (ATS).
Since 2006, functional forces of ASEAN countries have stamped out a large number of synthetic drug production bases. But the situation still remains complex, and methamphetamine modulation activities in association with transnational organized criminal gangs are still a big challenge for ASEAN countries.
Delegates at the meeting |
Delegates at the meeting discussed and reviewed law enforcement activities of each country and the region as a whole as well as ASEAN countries’ implementation of the ASEAN Cooperation Plan against illegal production and trade of drugs in the Golden Triangle in the 2017-2019 period, checked cooperation projects and seek solutions to promote law enforcement cooperation in the region in preparation for the 39th ASEAN High-Level Meeting in Brunei and the 6th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Drug Matters in Vietnam by the end of 2018.
The event takes place on June 26 and 27 in Hanoi.
