Vietnamese MPS treasures cooperation with Angolan Ministry of Home Affairs

PSNews - General To Lam, Minister of Public Security, received General José Luis Caetano Higino de Sousa, General Director of the Angolan External Intelligence Service on June 3 in Hanoi.

At the meeting, Minister To Lam spoke highly of the tradition friendship and good cooperation between Vietnam and Angola in the last 40 years in various fields such as agriculture, education, telecommunications, and oil and gas exploration.

Minister To Lam reiterated that, on the basis of good bilateral relations, in 2014, Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and Angola’s Ministry of Home Affairs signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of security and public order. The agreement has been an important document, serving as a legal basis for the two ministries to cooperate in ensuring national security, maintaining social order and safety of each country.

According to General To Lam, Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security always attaches great importance to developing its ties with the Angolan Ministry of Home Affairs, and considered Angola as one of the key partners in Africa.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security is also willing to promote exchange of delegations, sharing of information and experience in protection of national security, crime prevention, and cooperation in other specialized fields with Angolan law enforcement agencies, Minister To Lam stressed.

General To Lam hoped that Angola supports Vietnam’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council of the term 2020-2021, and Vietnam’s Chairmanship of ASEAN 2020.

He also suggested that the two sides sign cooperation deals on extradition of criminals and transfer of prisoners. The host also asked the Angolan side to name Angolan agencies in charge of negotiations so that the Vietnamese side would send relevant documents on the negotiations to them.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue cooperation in non-traditional security areas such as cyber-security, protection of important government infrastructural projects, food security, climate change response.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen information exchange, sharing of experience in analyzing and appraising situations in the world and the region, as well as in preventing and combating transnational organized crimes, human trafficking, illegal immigration, drug-related crimes, hi-tech crimes, money laundering.

Mr. José Luis Caetano Higino de Sousa, for his part, thanked Minister To Lam for the reception. The General Director of the Angolan External Intelligence Service promised that he would try his best to promote cooperation between Vietnam and Angola in general and Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and the Angolan Ministry of Home Affairs in particular.
