Writing contest themed "For national security and peaceful life" kicks off

PSNews - The Ministry of Public Security in collaboration with the Vietnam Writers’Association on August 15 held a ceremony to launch the 6th writing contest themed "For national security and peaceful life" in the 2017-2020 period.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security and poet HuuThinh, President of the Vietnam Writers’Association, the two Co-chairmen of the Contest Steering Committee, attended the event.

Speaking at the event, Lieutenant General Le Van De, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of Public Security said, the Permanent Board of the contest will start receiving entries right after the launching ceremony until June 30th, 2020. The closing and awarding ceremony is planned to be held in August 2020 on the 75th anniversary of the Public Security Forces’ Traditional Day (August 19, 1945-2020). All entries to the contest must be unpublished or fully unprinted in any newspapers, journals or other publications.

Prizes for all three categories of the contest: novel, story and memoir, include three A prizes for the novel category (worth 50 million VND each) and 2 A prizes for the story category and memoir category. In addition, the organizers will also award three B prizes for outstanding novels and 2 B prizes for stories and memoirs. There will also be six C prizes and seven consolation prizes.

Entries selected from the qualifying ground will be fully or partly released by the Public Security Publisher or by the Public Security Newspaper. The contest winners will be published in books by the Public Security Publisher.

Poet HuuThinh said: "This is the 4th time the Ministry of Public Security in collaboration with the Vietnam Writers’Association has held a contest on novels, stories and memoirs themed "For national security and peaceful life". Over the last 15 years since the first contest, hundreds of written pieces submitted to the contests have received big awards, including the State Prize, the Ho Chi Minh Prize, and have been popularized to all literature lovers."

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh said that the literary works have vividly reflected the revolutionary spirit of people from all walks of life in the movement "All people protecting national security", contributing to glorifying the victory of the public security forces and building the good image of public security officers.

The Deputy Minister affirmed that leaders of the Ministry of Public Security and others units of the force will create the most favorable conditions for writers to go on field trips to public security units and meet with good examples as characters and materials for their written works.
