Archaeologists suggest expanding search for tomb of King Quang Trung

Emperor Quang Trung was the second emperor of the Tay Son dynasty of Vietnam, reigning from 1788 until 1792. He was also one of the most successful military commanders in Vietnam's history.
According to researchers, the excavation is necessary as historians have not yet found any valuable resources, unveiling the burial place of King Quang Trung, and his tomb is said to have been destroyed.

The excavation of the Duong Xuan Mound took place in October 2016 by the Thua Thien-Hue Museum of History and the Institute of Archaeology, aiming to gain insight into the Tay Son Dynasty of King Quang Trung.
The recent archaeological work, according to archaeologists, was based on the research of Mr. Nguyen Dac Xuan, who has many years researching the area. The archaeologists then believe that the area of the mound of Duong Xuan is the place where the Dan Duong palace used to exist, and where King Quang Trung was buried.
According to Ass. Prof. Dr. Bui Van Liem, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Archeology Institute, the archaeological team has opened five exploratory holes and found many archaeological artifacts, such as crockery, ceramics, bricks, tiles, and a white porcelain ceramic bowl with a blue dragon painted on it and Chinese words "Kangxi yearly" written on its support, dating from 1661 to 1722.
The traces show the evidence of residents’ living between the 17th century and the 19th century, Ass. Prof. Dr. Bui Van Liem added.
At the event, many scientists also voiced the need to expand research and excavation in the Duong Xuan Mound, aiming to find other relics related to the Dan Duong palace.
The researchers also called on relevant agencies to draw up a detailed plan to search and excavate the Duong Xuan Mound and other places in Hue city.
