PSNews – The Vietnam Airlines inaugurated a flight simulation complex (SIM) on August 21 at its Pilot Training Center, in Ho Chi Minh City.

General Director of Vietnam Airlines speaking at the event.

This first-ever SIM in the country is considered a breakthrough in the strategic investment plan for training pilots of Vietnam Airlines. The flight simulation complex features four simulators, including two for training pilots of Airbus A321 aircraft, one for Airbus A350 and one for Boeing 787 aircraft.

The establishment of the SIM will bring many benefits for Vietnam Airlines in particular and for the airline industry in general. Duong Tri Thanh, General Director of Vietnam Airlines, said that putting into operation the SIM will allow Vietnam Airlines to take the initiative in training pilots, as well as ensuring the quality and quantity of pilots at the highest level in accordance with the international standards.

With the SIM, the carrier will train pilots for itself, which can save up over VND285 billion (US$12.5 million) in 10 years.

Strategically, the SIM helps also strengthen Vietnam Airlines' position in the world. Under its plan, the Vietnam Airlines Pilot Training Center is striving to be among the top 5 training centres in the region. Currently, the centre is providing training services for many carriers in the region, including those from Australia and India.

Vietnam Airlines, a member of Skyteam Alliance, operates 90 routes to 20 domestic and 29 international destinations with an average of 400 flights per day. It owns a fleet of modern airplane models, including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Airbus A350-900 XWB, Airbus A330 and Airbus A321.
