PSNews- With his project “Earthquake Resistant House” awarded second prize in the provincial round (without first prize), Khanh has been selected for the National Young Inventions Contest.

Hoang Cong Phuoc Khanh is a 12th grade student at Vinh Linh high school. Regarding his idea and project, he said, many mountainous areas in Vietnam, where  hydropower plants are located, recently experienced earthquake. Although the recent earthquakes did not cause serious aftermath, we should put on the alert against and well prepare for possibly stronger earthquakes in the future. From this idea, he has decided to develop the project “Earthquake Resistant House.”

Khanh with his project.

Khanh has invented seismic-free structure that can minimize houses' oscillation when earthquake happens. The structure also helps improve the house’s resistance capacity against earthquakes.

According to the project, each 2-room house with seismic-free substructure may cost 25% - 30% more than a normal house, but people living in the house will be safer.

Khanh's project has been highly appreciated, and won the second prize at the Quang Tri provincial round of the contest. Khanh is still seeking to improve his project.

“Learning only about consequences of storms and whirlwinds, one should see the need for the seism-proof structure. However, , he confided that he still needs support from scientists and funding from investors to perfect the project'', Khanh said.
