PSNews - Vietnam, in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), will host the ITU Digital World 2020, a global tech event for governments, corporates and tech SMEs on October 20 – 22,  on a technology platform developed by Vietnam.

The annual event, co-organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), will feature the theme of “Building the digital world together”.

This year, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, MIC Minister Nguyen Manh Hung, authorised by the Prime Minister of Vietnam, has proposed the initiative to virtually hold the ITU Digital World on a Make-in-Vietnam platform developed by the ministry and military-run telecom giant Viettel.

Addressing the press conference, MIC Deputy Minister Phan Tam said that Vietnam will be the first country to host the event under its new name, ITU Digital World (formally known as the ITU Telecom World), 50 years since its initial inception.

“ITU Digital World 2020 has significant meaning, improving the country’s position and affirming its important role as one of the fastest-developing countries in ICT and an active and responsible member of ITU”, shared Deputy Minister Phan Tam.

This is also an opportunity for Vietnamese firms to promote their image, thus enabling them to expand their market share globally, he added.

During the three-day ITU Digital World, a series of events will be held, including ITU ministerial roundtables, forum sessions associated with the development of a digital world, and a virtual exhibition featuring pavilions of countries and world-leading corporations showcasing innovative products, technologies and applications.

The organisers will not restrict the number of participants, and this online platform is expected to accommodate 100,000-200,000 visitors.
