The Prime Minister on June 15 has issued Decision No. 942/QD-TTg approving the e-government development strategy towards the digital government in the 2021-2025 period, with a vision to 2030.

This very first e-government development strategy sets out five groups of targets: providing high-quality services to society; expanding public engagement; improving state agency operations; effectively addressing important issues in socio-economic growth; making a breakthrough change in the national ranking for e-government, with the goal of bringing Vietnam into the top 50 countries in the world in digital government, e-participation and open data.

To realize these goals, the Government has set out key tasks, including working out a legal framework, developing digital infrastructure, digital platforms, and a national database, along with new services and apps for the process.

In the immediate future, a national database on basic and essential services for the people, enterprises, and State agencies would be a priority, especially a database on land, citizens, and enterprises.

The strategy also outlines the role and responsibility of ministries, industries, and localities in promoting new digital technologies such as Cloud Computing, Big Data, Mobility, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, and social media, in order to save time and cost in building and operating information systems and automating and optimising work processes.
