PSNews – The Military-run Telecommunication Group Viettel on June 1st announced that it successfully deployed its Online Charging System calls or vOCS.

Starting the project in 2011, after 6 years with multiple failures, in the end of 2016, Viettel officially put into operation its vOCS 3.0 system. Within 6 months, Viettel has managed to calculate costs of its 90 million subscribers with the aid of the new system.

Viettel's vOCS 3.0 can manage up to 24 million subscribers per site. Besides, vOCS 3.0 is customizable to design a subscription package for each subscriber. Thanks to its self-developed vOCS system, Viettel has saved more than $70 million from the investment costs.

Currently, vOCS 3.0 is operational in six countries, including Timor Leste, Cameroon, Burundi, Tanzania, Peru, and Vietnam, and is used by 140 million subscribers. In the future, Viettel will start deploying the system to every market that the corporation has invested in. In its next step, Viettel will offer vOCS 3.0 as a hi-tech product package for sale to other telecoms across the world.

OCS is the center of any phone networks because it contains the entire databases of real-time user fees, business policies, products and services of each telecom brand. Currently, there are 20 real-time billing systems providers around the world including 3 giants namely Amdocs, Ericsson and Huawei.

Therefore, the successful launch of Viettel’s new OCS system for its 90 million subscribers in Vietnam and total 140 million in its six markets, has made Vietnam become one of the largest OCS providers worldwide.

Nguyen Dinh Chien, Vice President of Viettel’s Research and Development Department said: "Currently, information security is one of the biggest concerns in the world. As one of Vietnam’s biggest telecommunication corporations, Viettel is determined to take responsibility for developing and manufacturing a communications network infrastructure to ensure information and cyber safety and security. By now, 30% of its telecommunications network facilities in Vietnam has been developed by Viettel. Viettel aims that its networks will use100 per cent of its produced telecommunications equipment and facilities by 2020.We want to make Vietnam become 1 of the 3 world largest telecommunications equipment providers."

Recently, IT World Awards announced that vOCS 3.0 has won a silver medal in the most innovative IT product category. The award ceremony will be held on June 26, 2017 in San Francisco.
