From August 2019, Mytel’s customers (Viettel’s brand in Myanmar) will have opportunity to experience 5G technology. This information is announced by Mytel at “Mytel’s first 5G” event hosted at Sedona hotel, Yangon, Myanmar on 5 August, 2019.

Being the first operator to introduce 5G technology in Myanmar, Mytel continues to sustain its role as a technology pioneer, and to bring the state-of-art technologies to the Golden Land.

At the event, attendees had the opportunity to experience 4K VR and Video technology over 5G network. The uniqueness of 5G is also validated by Mytel via speed test by phone. After the event, Mytel customers can experience 5G technology at Mytel Customer Experience Center in Myanmar Plaza.

"Mytel is making constant efforts to bring the cutting edge, 5G technology, to all customers. In the shortest time, Mytel will provide 5G services nationwide, "said Mr. Hoang Trung Thanh, CEO of Mytel.

Earlier, on July 31, 2019, Mytel successfully conducted a 5G technical test on C band (3.5 GHz). The connection speed during the test was up to 1.6 Gbps, far exceeding the 4G network limit which is only 150 Mbps. Along with this success of Mytel, Viettel became the first operator to launch 5G technology in 3 countries (Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar).

Mr. Do Manh Hung, CEO of Viettel Global said: “The goal of Mytel in particular and Viettel Global's markets in general is to be ready to lead the infrastructure, develop the latest technology and improve the products and prices to be suitable for customers's finance.

In Myanmar, Mytel is cooperating with many suppliers to launch the most modern phones that can use 5G technology. Thus, customers can use the 5G network as soon as the technology is officially deployed. On the other hand, being a network that always pays attention to customers, Mytel's 5G network will be completely superior to 4G network but the price will not change compared to using 4G network. ”

According to Mr. U Soe Thien, Secretary of Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of Myanmar, this country will deploy 5G technology in the next 2-3 years. With the promotion of Viettel, Myanmar will soon become one of the earliest 5G countries in the region. The use of 5G technology is expected to facilitate the development of wireless fixation and universal connectivity, replacing mobile broadband in Myanmar.

Myanmar is the 10th market of Viettel, alo it is the largest market with the largest population compared with all markets  invested by Viettel. On September 8, 2016, Viettel and two partners of Myanmar signed a joint venture contract, officially laying the foundation for this project. The official name of the Joint Venture is Telecom International Myanmar (brand name is Mytel). After only 1 year of infrastructure development, Mytel became the first mobile network covering 4G nationwide in Myanmar, contributing to upgrading Myanmar telecommunications infrastructure. With 4G technology, Mytel provides a digital ecosystem from VAS services to IT solutions that makes Myanmar a digital country.

After 1 year from the official launching services in June 2018, Mytel rose to nearly 17% of the mobile telecommunications market share and ranked 3rd in the market. Three other carriers, MPT, Telenor and Ooredoo, took 44.5%, 28.4% and 13% of the market share, respectively. At the same time, Mytel is the most popular operator in Myanmar, according to a survey by Kantar Media, a UK market research company.

Before Myanmar, in May 2019, Viettel successfully implemented the first 5G call in Vietnam. In July 2019, Viettel also tested 5G technology in Cambodia which is Viettel's first foreign market deploying 5G.
