The Royal 16 is a cargo vessel owned by Quy Sang Company based in the northern Vietnamese province of Thai Binh. On the way to carry cement from Hai Phong to Indonesia, the Royal 16 sent distress call (SSAS).
There were 19 people aboard the Royal 16 at that time. The Vietnam Marine Administration announced that the Royal 16 was attacked, and 6 crew members, including captain, 2 assistants, 1 crew chief and 1 sailor, were taken hostage.
After attacking, the Royal 16 was released with the remaining 13 crew members (one of them was shot in the arm). It ran to Zamboanga - the nearest port in the Philippines. Currently, the Royal 16 has docked safely there and the Philippine coast guard forces are investigating the case.
