He emphasised that two-way trade turnover between the two countries hit US$14.8 billion last year and this year’s figure is anticipated to exceed the US$18 billion target set for 2025 thanks to both countries’ efforts to spur economic and trade drivers.

He reiterated Malaysia’s commitment to promoting green, sustainable and environmentally friendly economic growth programmes, and at the same time, called on Vietnamese businesses to further strengthen their cooperation with Malaysian businesses in these fields.

The Malaysian PM expressed his belief that through efforts to strengthen ties, set up joint ventures and share visions, both countries can fully tap into their potential and accelerate cooperation mechanisms for mutual benefits in the time ahead.

With regard to the future co-operation opportunities between the two countries, Malaysian Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul stressed that apart from being ASEAN members, both Malaysia and Vietnam also members of important FTAs such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

These mechanisms are expected to provide fresh impetus for the two countries' post-pandemic economic recovery efforts, he said.

In particular, there remains plenty of room for further collaboration in a variety of fields such as real estate, energy, Halal products, food and beverage, construction and building materials, as well as medical and pharmaceutical products moving forward, he added.
